    DefaultEukanuba vs. Ol' Roy

    Hi,

I'm picking up my first chocolate lab tomorrow. I want to make sure she's eating good food that will keep her healthy. I spoke with the breeder earlier today to see what she had been feeding her and she told me Ol'Roy. I was a little shocked and disappointed because I don't think Ol'Roy is even a mediocre brand. Am I wrong? Does anyone here feed there dog Ol'Roy? If so, what do they think? The breeder said that so far the pup Kai, is doing great on the food. I was thinking to switching her over to Eukanuba. Does anyone feed their dog this brand either? If so, what do you think?

I'm stressing out a little about this so any input or opinions would be great!

    Thanks!!!!

I wouldn't feed Ol'Roy. To be honest, it's my "staple crappy food reference" dog food... :-\

Having said that, dog food is a maze of opinions mixed with some facts and more opinions. I think it's important that you feed them something that you feel good about, and works well for them.

Good luck, Kai is a cutie.

I agree.. When the breedere told me that's what she was feeding Kai I thought she had to be kidding. I've always grown up with dogs and we always joked about Ol'Roy. Thanks!

Just make sure you don't start the switch until she's been home for about a week, to give her a chance to get her bearings, settle in, etc. Ol'Roy may be crappy, but it is familiar to her. Then wean her off of the old food onto the new slowly.

    Edited because I put "Ol'Roly"....

Personally I would choose a food without corn, soy, wheat, sorghum, by product.

A food with a single (and specific) protein source and few carbs (grains).

Wow, I am a brand new member, and this board is such a HUGE wealth of information!! I am so excited! I was just googling trying to get the info I was looking for and not having alot of luck. So far, all the issues I had questions about have been answered! i was in a quandry about what kind of food to go with. Sammy's previous owner was feeding him Ol' Roy, and gave us the bag he had left. I knew it wasn't good food at all, but didn't know what I should switch to. I have gotten some great info here. Thanks!
