    DefaultPRA test

I want to test my dog for the PRA gene. Are their multiple testing companies or is Optigen the go to company for PRA test?

    Thank you

You can submit to *any* 20/20 clinic w/ satellite participation (latter being the key) for the largest discount. They usually have one scheduled per month so contact that club's rep for the discount code. Price should come to ~$156 or so if I remember right plus blood draw and shipping.... Good luck! -Anne

    PRA is Progressive Retinal Attrophy. A - clear, B - effected, C - carrier.

    Causes blindness in dogs.

B or C dog should never be bred to anything other than an A to prevent PRA.

A bred to A results in all pups being A by parentage.

Although ABC is no longer used with the new test, in the old test B was a carrier (unaffected) and C was affected.

With the new test, your dog will come back Clear/unaffected, Carrier/unaffected or Affected.

Clarification to above on the "clear by parentage". That assumes you have DNA proof of parentage if you want it to count for OFA inclusion. Unfortunately trust went out the window long ago.

http://www.optigen.com/opt11_calendar.taf for schedule of clinics-- see the ACD specialty for the 20/20 w/ satellite participation coming VERY SOON!!!! Also see the home site for more info on PRA as well as this article from LRC: http://www.thelabradorclub.com/library/prcd.html
