Well Maddy had her bladder u/s yesterday and her bladder wall was slightly thickened so they said that was fine since she is just getting over a uti but then he went on to look at her kidneys. Not so good. He kept looking and looking and saying they just don't look right. Well he left it as in scientific terms they don't look good, he wanted to get a urine from her and call some labs and specialist before he would do anything so I left her for 2 hours because she wouldn't pee. I picked her up last night and he said he spoke with some people and they want to run thousands of dollars in tests but he said he would just like the baselines since even after all these tests, which I cannot afford with a medically complicated child, it wouldn't change what the treatment is if it is her kidneys. What he recommended was the baseline tests, blood and urine to see how her kidneys are functioning. So we are planning on doing this in a couple weeks as he wanted to make sure we were totally in the clear with her UTI first. He called some specialist today and they both said her incontence might be do to a misplaced ureter so we have another option of med to treat that if her incontence becomes bad again.
Game plan I guess is if it comes out with odd kidney tests then we are to feed her K/D food and hope to extend her life as long as possible and that is all we can do. He didn't suggest anything else.
I am so sad at the news of what we might be dealing with. We adopted Maddy right before Christmas of 05. She was my christmas present that year. She was only 8 months old when we got her and is only 2 1/2 years old now. Sydney won't know what to do without her since we got her in Feb Maddy has always been a good big sister to her. My kids were with me and heard all of this and are so upset that Maddy may not be with us "forever". We will deal with what is dealt us and make sure she has a good as long of life as she has left but I am also hopeful that the vet is wrong and she will be fine.
Here is a picture of Maddy
So sorry to read about Maddiy fingers crossed that she will be ok and that the vet is wrong, will keep maddy in my thoughts and prayers tonight....
I too hope things will be ok. Maybe it's just b/c of her UTI? She is beautiful! Poor pup...
I am sorry to hear about this complication. Will keep Maddy in my thoughts and fingers crossed that the test results are favorable and she has a long and happy life. Keep us posted!

I am sorry to hear about this. I hope Maddy will do fine with medication. Please keep us posted. She is a very pretty girl.
I'm so sorry to hear this.
If the blood work and urinalysis comes back with signes of kidney failure please contact me as I have been thru this.
I refused to feed the K/D food as it (your talking Science Diet right?) has ethoxyquin in it.
I fed a good quality kibble with the lowest phosphorous possible (very important) and added good quality cooked chop meat to each meal. also supplemented naturally and my girl did great from 14 1/2 to age 16. The dog food was Royal Canine Maxi Mature 26

Thank you, we are doing all the tests later this month as I couldn't afford it right at the moment and the vet said it didn't matter if I waited 2 weeks. I was leary on yes Science Diet K/D food as she is on Chicken soup adult now and would be going to a worse food over all. I am hoping that they are totally wrong with her as she is incontenent so to me that would make sense why her urine is dilute during u/a because she does drip some and that would explain the UTI's too I think, but in the same respect that doesn't explain why her kidneys looked "funny" on ultrasound.
