I have been told there is a generic Metacam that is much cheaper.
In N.Z. Metacam costs $150.00 a bottle. This lasts 6 weeks. Along with his twice monthly Pentosan at $35.00 it is expensive. Not that I begrudge him pain meds, but he is needing more and more. I want to try accupuncture or other treatment for his hips so will all add up.
I had been buying Flexicam (same thing) but cheaper, but I am in Ireland, so I don't suppose that is any good to you!
Maybe you could look it up and see if it is available to you in N.Z?
Meloxicam (also the name of the active ingredient) by Troy has been out here for 2 or 3 months. About $20 less a 100ml bottle then Metacam (wholesale price, so might be $40 per bottle cheaper retail....depending on your vets mark up %) See if your vet is charging you a dispensing fee as well. We usually do away with the dispensing fee when clients buy "in bulk" on a regular basis.....might save a further $10 - $15.
Won't someone please feed me!
We have used Meloxicam and Metacam for Gabby's back/hip in the spring/early summer (it all runs together?).
I was not happy with it as it caused diarrhea. However, so did carpofren and rimadyl- so it is likely she is just sensitive.
