    DefaultMouth Tumour

Hi there, I am new to this so forgive me for any errors I make.

My 4 and a half year old male lab, Rolo had a mouth tumour removed 6 days ago. It was about the size of a gobstopper and the vet said they managed to remove it all.
He has finished his course of antibiotics today and I am looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with this before.
I know that it will be swollen after an operation like that but was thinking it would have gone down by now - it isnt over swollen otherwise I would rush him back in but it feels as though the lump could still be there. Maybe I am just being paranoid and overally protective because I dont know what to expect but was hoping for some reassurance.
I am going to call the vets in the morning and ask for advice on whether I should take him in for them to have a look anyway but any thoughts I can get on here might put my mind at rest.

Any bits of advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Joy

Was histopathology run on the growth to see what kind of tumor it was? The "lumpiness" could due to inflamation, reaction to internal sutures, or to regrowth of neoplastic cells. Give your vet a call tomorrow and have it checked. Hopefully it's nothing serious. You and Rolo will be in my thoughts.

Hi yes it was - results of this are due back on Friday.
I have telephoned the vets today and they have asked for me to take him in - my other half will be doing so today.

Thanks for your advice, I only hope everything is ok.

Just an update - the vets say it isnt much to worry about at the moment. Yes it is how I described but they cannot do anything until the results come back on Friday and we will know more then.

    Thanks again

    Hello
Thankyou to the people who replied to me and sent well wishes.
Just to update, the results came in today and Rolo has been given the all clear. The vets are now saying it was not a tumour and that it could have been caused by either a trauma - as in a severe blow to the mouth! which I guess could be possible as he likes to rough and tumble with his rottweiler friend and of course our other dog : Or it could be a bad infection from a foreign body i.e. a stick.

I think I will be checking his mouth a lot more often now to catch anything like this again before it grows too big! That way we can hopefully go with the antibiotics rather than the op!

So, apart from the big vet bill :'( I am over the moon! ;D

    Thanks again
    Joy
