I picked up my lab, Rocco, from some owners that weren't really interested in him. They said that they had given him all of his shots but Rabies. The thing is, they said that they don't have the shot records. So It's kind of hard for me to believe them, would it be harmful to my dog to give him all of his vaccinations again? I really want to take him to an obidience class but I can't do that without shot records.
Ask them for the name of the vet they used and try contacting the vet's office directly and explain the situation. If you can prove you now own the dog they should give you the records.
How old is Rocco? I would do a titer test to see if the dog is covered before revaccinating.
Thing is, they said that they gave him the shots themselves, thats why its hard for me to believe them. hes 5 months old.
you could ask your vet to do titer testing on him, that'll tell you if he's been vaccinated.
And then if he comes back OK, I'm sure you could explain the situation to the obedience school and they'll be alright with titers.

I think titers are probably the way to go.
I definately don't like the idea of over-vaccinating.
The problem with titers is that you have a potentially unprotected pup while you wait for results. Personally, I would give another full set of vaccines including rabies to get that protection as soon as possible. Boost those next year and then go to every 3 year vaccines or titers thereafter. JMO.
If I remember correctly the last time I titered a dog I had results in 2 days or less.
If you decide to re-vaccinate I would split up the vaccines and space them out just in case he has already been vaccinated - could help prevent overloading his system
Of all the vaccines, I would not risk redoing rabies. Way too many side effects of overvaccinating. If they can't find the receipt, go with titers.
I'm with ruff n tumble. Shelter dogs get vaccinated (probably again) all of the time...and they seem to fair okay. I would err on the side that these guys didn't vaccinate...and who's to say they vaccinated with the correct puppy shots. Do the puppy series again and call it a day.
