Our vet told us that Ernie can begin to go off his puppy food and start eating the Adult, and we're going to start doing this today.
Obviously, as he suggested and we figured, you don't want to completely take him off his puppy food immediately, so I'm wondering what others have done in the past.
Do you do a 50-50 split with the puppy food and the adult food? Or 3/4 puppy food and 1/4 adult food just to get him started?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Depends on how much puppy food you have left. If it's alot, I would do 1/4 adult for a few weeks, then 1/2 for a few weeks, then 3/4 for the last 2 weeks.
If you don't have that much, do 1/2 split right now.
What CYNLABS said.
The usual changeover is to feed one part new plus 3 parts old for a period of time and then 1/2 and 1/2, and then 1 part old with 3 parts new -- then all new.
I wouldn't make the "period of time" any shorter than 3 days but you can lengthen it as much as you want.

A gradual change over is always recommended. I usually start with 1/4 adult with 3/4 puppy for a few days. Then increase to 1/2 and 1/2 for a few more days. etc... I also watch for stool change to be sure they are tolerating the change. It doesnt matter how much food I have left because then if I do have any more puppy food.. well then another puppy is in order ;D.. or I can just give as treats.
