Linda, I just took Oona to the vet and asked him about the things on her elbows. He said it is sebaceous adenomas. [i]The Dog Owners Home Veterinary Handbook [i](pp. 479-80) says they are common benign tumor that usually appear on older dogs and they arise from oil producing glands. The vet said that a topical treatment of Otomax could be applied. As long as the tumor remains under an inch and isn't causing a problem it isn't necessary to remove. Occasionally a sebaceous tumor becomes malignant and becomes a sebaceous adenocarcinoma. "Suspect maglinancy if the tumor is larger than one inch, has an ulcerated surface, and is growing rapidly." pg 480.
