Is you guy just a puppy? I wouldn't be adding any supplements at his age. Feed a good quality food. Itching might be due to the heater or possibly bedding, i.e., etc.

It is very unlikely the fish oil is causing him to itch. If anything, upping the oil in his diet should help STOP itching, not cause it.

    What are you feeding him?

And he has been having itchy/bad skin problems since you got him, right? has he always been on that food? personally if my dogs were having those problems (one of mine did until I switched him to a hypoallergenic formula so I know it is frustrating) I would think about trying a different food...

One thing to pay attention to when you are trying to figure out a possible food allergy is that you have to look at everything you give your dog.

For example, say your puppy is allergic to beef and you don't know it. So the Nutro LBP formula has it, you decide to change to a fish and potato formula and you are still giving the fish oil, and no changes in his reaction...you'll have to look at the fish oil, not because he is allergic to fish oil, but perhaps the gelatin capsules holding the fish oil is made from bovine materials. It all ties together.

Find a simple food, one meat source, one carb source (stay away from grains including flax), stop feeding the fish oil and see what happens.

I give cans of fish in natural oil. No capsules. and takes the guess work out of how much to give.

As others have said it may not be the fish oil. Ernie gets terribly itchy and dry skin. I took him off dry food and feed raw. The difference is amazing. A lot of dogs have a low tolerance to wheat, beef and preservatives. All the ingredients in dry food.

It takes several weeks for the new food to start and often trial and error is the only way to see what it is.
