DefaultPup not eating all of food anymore....

We recently put Payton on Innova adult because Pro Plan made him itch too much. He initially loved the food, but since then we noticed he dranks a lot more water, has mushy poops, bad gas, and sometimes turns his nose up at his food, or eats just half. Is he tired of this food already?

If he's having bad poops, then I don't think it's necessarily an issue of not liking the food. Bad poops mean the food is not working well with his system.

I would say take him to the vet. There might be something else going on.

How much are you feeding? You could be overfeeding him which would cause mushy poops. At his age, around 2c. twice a day is about standard...although it will change accordingly depending on Kcals per cup in your food. The Innova adult has a higher protein amount than some other foods but it shouldn't matter.

I'd bet that you are overfeeding him and he's stopping when he's done.

What Dani said. Innova contains much more calories than Pro Plan and the biggest problem is overfeeding. Pro Plan also contains more "fillers" than Innova, mainly empty calories.

Did you switch from Pro Plan Puppy to Innova adult? If so, I doubt it's the number of calories since the Pro Plan puppy is more "calorically dense."

You try and see if he improves on it (perhaps the change is upsetting his stomach - you could try to get some probiotics for your vet or a health food store), feed less, or find something else.

My Puff [YF, AKC field line (competing breeder), 65 labs, DOB: 8-'01] is one of the rare "mutant" self-regulating Labs in the amount of food she eats.

She'd gone from barely over a cup a day at 9 weeks and 6 lbs. to 5 cups/day when she was about 7-8 months. At that time, she began skipping some meals and I began reducing the amount given until it matched her intake. Then her appetite reduced again -- and again -- until at last the 5 cups/day reduced to half that for her adult intake.
