What helps clear up doggie acne? Or should I say - what causes it?
Are you using stainless steel dishes for water and food? If not, you should be. Plastic dishes can contribute to chin acne.
You can also use a clorahexaderm wash on the chin. If that doesn't clear it up your vet may want to use a course of antibiotics. Ask your vet about treating this.
When Mocha had it changing her bowls to stainless steel took care of it. I haven't seen another 'pimple' since the ones she had cleared up.
I've also heard to just wipe their chin after they eat with a warm wash cloth.
Where do you find clorahexaderm & are ceramic dishes just as good as stainless.
When Mocha's started she had a ceramic food bowl and plastic water dispencer I changed them both to stainless. I think the ceramic may be ok if you wash it every day. The bacteria that grows on the bowl is what causes the acne from what I understood. The stainless hinders the growth.
How old is your dog? One of my dogs had a bout of doggie acne when she was about 1.5. I noticed that they got worse if she ate those rawhide or pigskin rolls. Eventually they just went away and I had heard it could be an adolescent phase.
My boy only gets a few pimples and I noticed they usually come after he has a marrow bone, so I just make sure I wipe his mouth and chin off with a soapy rag after he eats one.
