    DefaultEye Problem - KCS

My 9.5 month black female has been having discharge coming from her eyes for a few months and it has gotten worse lately ... She had started to paw at her eyes and the discharge was really bad in the morning.

Most thought it was allergies so I took her to the vet today and he did a Schirmer Tear Test ... Schirmer test is putting a litmus type paper in the lower eyelid to test for moistness ... Dogs should have a result of between 15-20, my pup tested 8-9 in both eyes ... He diagnosed it as "Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca" (KCS), basically Dry Eye ... He prescribed washing with Eye Irrigation Solution and application of Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment (0.2% Cyclosporine) in each eye every 12 hours ... I have a follow-up scheduled for Thursday, 11/9.

Does anyone have any experience with this disorder?

One of mine has this due to damage. So far we put ointment in the eye 4-5 times a day and it helps. However, due to the dryness the dog has itched around the eyes and basically scarred the area around it.
