    DefaultWeight Question...

Every time I run my hand down Buck's back I can feel his spine. Or when I brush him I can definitely feel the bumps of his spine. Does he need to put on more weight??? Is it normal to feel it like that??

I can feel his ribs but not see them.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Don't quote me on this!!!

I remember seeing a poster in our vets office about the "proper" form for dogs which helps you decide if they are at a healthy weight. An ideal weight for a dog is when you cannot see their ribs, but when you pet them you can feel their ribs a little bit. Now you shouldn't be able to feel their ribs easily, there should be a little bit of padding there, but not tons.

But as I said before, don't quote me on that

    Edited to add:
***Alright, I found a site that might help out, check it out

Umm...I don't think so. I can feel the spine on my dogs and they are at the perfect weight. You should not be able to SEE the spine bones but feeling it should be fine.

I think Buck is in perfect condition. I can feel the spine on Emma too. And you say you can't see the ribs so then he must be perfect. He is such a beautiful boy, your Bucky!!

    Thanks for the replies guys!
Thanks for the compliment Emma the Lab.

I knew about the rib check to make sure they are of healthy weight. But I was not sure about the spine :P It's something that just occured to me the other day.
We were at the vet about a month ago and she said he looked great. He hasn't gained or lost any weight since so w0oT!

    Thanks again
