I am new to the forum, only about 2 weeks. I recently switched Chance from Innova to Pro Plan with Salmon for sensitive skin and stomachs. Well, Now Chance is ITCHING like crazy, and I don't know what to do. Does anyone know how much benadryl I can give him?? He weighs 80 lbs. I know your supposed to give tablets, so I don't know how many mg's to give. I would appreciate anyones feedback. Thanks!!
Wow, I just read a link to why allergies occur, and it says to give 1mg per pound of body weight. Don't you think 80mgs is sort of high?? I am paranoid to give him meds that I am not sure of.
2mg per pound orally every 8 hours. That is from the Dog Owner's Veterinary Handbook by Giffon & Carlson. Get this book it will pay for itself in trips you don't take to the vet.
So 40mg, for an 80 lb dog?? Should I give it in tablet form???
How recently did you switch Chance to ProPlan? what was the problem with Innova?
Yes tablet would be fine. You could put it in some peanut butter and put it in his mouth.
Ok, so they only had tablets in 25mg form. So, should I just give him one??
2 mgs per pound would be 160 mgs. How many does it recommend for a person?Originally Posted by chanceyboy
you must give the benedryl that is ONLY benedryl and NOT pain reliever or nasal decongestant, too.
oh, and we give our 75 lb lab 3 25 mg tablets (75mg total).
