Over the past few days my lab has been licking her female area alittle too much.* When she was lying on her back I was able to look at the area and its alittle red.* Any idea what this is?* I just made an appointment for her for this saturday.
That is what Cinder was doing when she had an infection. If you can't go to the vet until Sat. I would wipe her everytime she goes potty (or whenever you can) to remove any urine that may be irritating her. Poor little girl.
How old is she? Is she spayed? Is she having to urinate excessively?
FWIW, my first thought was vaginitis. The area can become discolored from excessive licking.
she is 4 years old.
she is spayed
she sometimes goes and its a short pee
Beside cleaning her after peeing is there anything else I can treat this with?
Mine has been doing that for ages. We had her tested for UTI and it was neg.
What do you feed her?
Does she have a inverted vulva? Mine does and supposedly urine can get traped in there and cause irritation.
feeding her what the breeder recommend pro plan. right now I use their chicken and rice forumula.Originally Posted by lab13

Females in particular can be prone to urinary tract infections. Introduce a few cranberries into her food, (softened). If it is a UTI that'll help.
here are the pics I promised.
Hard to tell with the pic's. but she look's alittle irriated, maybe from licking- but Sammi was licking more and irritated with a vaginitis that she had, and when she was going into/and was in heat. Good luck hope she is feeling better soon....
That definitely looks like an inverted vulva to me (though admittedly I'm not expert). If she were mine I'd have her to vet ASAP because she can't be very comfortable.
Here's an article on it: http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/ins-outs.html
