DefaultDog's eyes are teary and itchy?

My dog Kieran is almost a year old. For maybe 2 weeks, it seems like he's been scratching his face a lot, mainly around the eye area. I think, but I'm not totally sure, that some of the fur might be worn away. It also seems to me that his right eye is tearing a lot -- it has more crusty, sleep-type buildup around it. There was an incident about 3 weeks ago where I accidentally poked him in the eye a little bit while playing. He yelped a little bit but there was no bleeding and he seemed like he was ok afterwards... I don't know if I'm being paranoid or not after the eye-poke, but that combined with the itchy/runny eyes has me somewhat concerned. Could this be some sort of allergies? Should I take him to the vet? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would definitely take him to the vet.

He is adorable! My older dog has really bad allergies and one of her eyes tears up due to that. But I would also reccomend taking him to the vet just in case he has an infection. Keep us posted.
