    DefaultSickly puppy

Hi me again. Sorry but I am always full of questions. I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on what I can do for my puppy. Basically Mambo has a very weak imune system.

Let me give you a little background. I adopted him from the SPCA @ 6 weeks. The day I brought him home all was good. But I woke up worried caue he didnt cry in his crate the whole night. When I woke up he was very sick. Kinda lifeless so I rushed him back to the vets at the spca. They told he had kennel cough that turned into pnemiou (sp) They said because of his age he would not make it and had me sign him back over to the SPCA. Good news they called me the next day and said he was better. So I went and picked him up and after about 2 monts on antibiotics he was better.

Than We found out he has mange. Dermodex. Was born with it and because of his weak system it shows up on him. So I now treating him for that. Meds everyday, ointment and a bath every few days. Than he got sick again. So we have him anotibiotics again. Poor puppy takes so many meds a day.

I asked my vet about anything that I could do to help his imune system get stronger. And really she didnt have much to say.

So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on Vitamins that I could talk to my vet about?

Thanks in advance for the help. ???

Thanks for the info. I actualy went to the petstore today to see about a better qualty of food and vitamins. BUt there were so many choices so I decided so come home and do some research before making any choices.

The vet says most of his issues will go away as he gets older. The kennel cough came from when he was at the spca. and so did his first bought of pn. The mange he was born with so I can only treat it when it shows up, vet says stress can cause it.

    Thanks again

I suggest you make an appointment at the U of Fla's CollVetMed Teaching Hospital in Gainesville.* You can make an appointment either through your vet or on your own.

I've taken my Puff (YF, AKC field line, 63 lbs., DOB: 8-'01) to K-State's CVM TH (about 55 miles west of Topeka) since I got her at 9 weeks age.* They have the latest equipment and tests, diagnostic & treatment specialists, and the quality and skill of their vets is much above the middle range.* That's reason enough but I also find them less pricey than most local vets.

I started going there with my previous Lab, my beloved Bess (BF, AKC bench line, 55 lbs., 1967-81) when she was 7 years old.* *

The local vet we'd been using found cancerous lumps on her breasts and wanted to do a mastectomy.* But I'd been growing dissatisfied with him and we went to K-State for the operation.* I'm so glad we did.* They found the cancer had metastasized to the lymph system so they did a radical mastectomy plus a partial lymphectomy.*

Had we used our local vet, he wouldn't have picked up on the lymph and Bess would have been dead within a year.* As it was, we had 7 more wonderful years with her.* From the time of Bess's operation, we went back to K-State for ALL Bess's vet services.* That's why Puff and I go there for ALL her vet needs.
