What kind of treats do you give your Lab?
My Sandy boy really likes the dog treats made by Plato dog treats. He adores both the Duck and Salmon Formula. I use the Duck treat in training and also at shows to keep his energy level up so that his brain will be working when he is in the obedience ring.
Plato Duck Strips are:
• Over 90% duck
• Hypoallergenic, great for dogs with food allergies
• Naturally high in iron
• Natural ingredients, fortified with antioxidants
• No artificial colors, or flavors
• Naturally preserved.
• Antioxidant vitamins E and C.
• No meat by-products or meals.
• Fortified with Zinc Proteinate
There are sure a lot of dog treats out on the market. Others that I train with really like the treats made by Evangers....I've not tried them yet.
I also give him natural veggies as treats like carrots, bits of apple, etc. I just like the convenience of the Plato treats. Keep them in an airtight container and then grab a few when I'm heading out the door to train.
Baby carrots, Natural Balance Meat Roll cut into 1/4 in. cubes, kibble of the day.
Hershey Kisses, In charge of getting Ed out to the dog park so that he gets some exercise.
Carrots, green beans, whatever veggies I'm eating cut up into Jake-sized pieces, sweet potato "chips" (dehydrated).
When we're training he gets hot dogs cut up into about 1 cm cubes, dehydrated or cooked at 200 for 15-20 minutes.
If I'm feeling super nice I'll buy a box of Wellness Apple and Yogurt treats - and we got a 20 lb bag of California Natural Lamb and Rice Treats for free last month, so we're working through those too
Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannot be eaten. - Cree prophecy
Sammi gets mainly carrots, green beans, pieces of bananas- some of her biscuits- and her kong's filled with all of the above- certainly not all in one day
Puff usually gets a few pieces of her kibble (each piece is about 2/3rds the size of the rubber eraser on the end of a standard lead pencil) and that works fine (good value).
In the past, I've dehydrated banana slices (high value, which she loved) and also sliced hot dogs into 5c coin size slices, sprinkled lightly with garlic powder, and then nuked in the microwave (highest value).
Puff probably wishes I'd go back to doing those again.

We are a little parsimonious with treats mostly because of diabetes boy. I do use kibble for training treats and will occasionally treat with baby carrots. Just discovered that both dogs love lettuce.
But mostly we don't do the treat thing.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
She is nuts about bread!! I mostly give her pnut butter and scooby snacks in her kong.
