I've just joined the site - I have a black lab and he is 7 yrs old and showing signs of stiff joints every now and again
This morning he looked in pain and I don't really want to go down the metacam route just yet. (Spoke to vet and she agreed, suggested health supplements etc. but I've forgotton what)
Can you help me by letting me know what works for your family members please?
Diet wise he is fed once a day (approx 5pm) on chudleys classic which is soaked in a little water, Plus remaining veg from our meals
I would start with a glucosamine supplement - Cosequin is probaly the best.
There is also a product called Glycoflex - perna mussel in it is aids in combating arthritis.
You can also give a regular asprin on days when the pain is bad.
I started my last dog on Adequan shots and they helped him a lot. Different supplements work differently for different dogs. I really did not see any results with glucosamine/chondroitin supplements.
If you give your dog asprin make sure it's buffered asprin so as to not upset the stomach.
We do a wholistic supplement that has glucosamin and chondrotin and MSM in plus other good stuff. Recently, I added glycoflex and extra MSM.
Glucosamine and Adequan would be the route I would take.
