My 9 yr. old has had diarrhea for 3 days now. It's not abnormal to have a 24-hr bout, since she grabs any kind of garbage she thinks might be edible on the street, but she's never had a problem for so long.
The first day she was listless and not even interested in food smells when I was cooking chicken, her favorite. The next day and she looked and acted pretty normal, except for the diarrhea. I gave her rice and boiled chicken yesterday, then when the problem wasn't cured, today I just gave her rice. I don't think she's gone since this morning, so maybe it's working. But, now she doesn't seem to want to drink water. I took her for a walk and when we came in she just walked up to her bowl and sniffed it and walked away. She has been peeing, but not as much as normal. So, I gave her some diluted chicken broth, and she lapped it up.
Do you think it's safe for me to wait another day and see how she is? I thought she might be on the mend until she wouldn't drink her water.
Thanks for any help.
With her being an older dog, I would take her in and have her seen by her vet. Makes me nervous when older dogs start turning down food.

Hi - Just an update. I took Misty to the vet yesterday and he thinks it's colitis. Gave her an injection to settle her system, some antibiotics, and special food for a few days. She's doing much better. Likes the food and is drinking.
Thanks for your replies.
Good to hear...hope she continues to do well.
