    DefaultPro-Pet Large Breed Puppy Formula?

Does anyone use this dog food found at Southern States, if so, what do you think?

Never used it, but here are the ingredients.
    http://petcenter.southernstates.com/dogs/dogfood.jsp?14
Lamb meal, brewers rice, ground yellow corn, chicken, corn gluten meal, chicken fat ( preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), ground wheat, dried beet pulp, chicken meal, dried egg product, natural flavors, fish meal, brewers dried yeast, canola oil, salt, potassium chloride, dried yucca schidigera, dl- methionine, l-lysine, vitamins (choline chloride, vitamin a acetate, d-activated animal sterol (source of vitamin d-3), vitamin e supplement, ascorbic acid, niacin, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, calcium pantothenate, folic acid, biotin, vitamin b-12 supplement), minerals (magnesium sulfate, ferrous sulfate monohydrate, iron proteinate, zinc oxide, zinc proteinate, manganous oxide, manganese proteinate, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite).
It's got a meat meal as the first ingredient, chelated minerals...it doesn't look terrible. I couldn't feed it because Jes doesn't tolerate wheat, though. My biggest question is how much calcium is in it? It doesn't say on the website.

It has two corn products among the first five ingredients.* This is a food with a lot of fillers so you'll get big poops.

But Nick asks the critical question -- how much calcium per standard quantity of kcals

Anyone can say "Large Breed Puppy Food" but NOT every mfr is abiding by the recommended calcium ratios.

Among the more popular companies making LBP foods with better ingredients, fewer fillers, and CORRECT Calcium ratios* are (alphabetcially):

Diamond (available mostly in feed stores and Tractor Supply stores),

    Eukanuba,

    Nutro Natural Choice,

    ProPlan, and

    Science Diet.

Some of these companies make less expensive LBP foods with more fillers but with the correct ratios of Calcium, etc.* These would include:

    Iams (a division of Eukanuba)

    Nutro Max

Purina One (like ProPlan, a division of Nestle-Purina)

But Diamond LBP food, a first tier food with fewer fillers and better ingredients (than the 2nd tier) will still probably be cheaper than any of the second tier foods. You can log on http://www.diamondpet.com and look for their "dealer near you" locator tab.
