Jazzy and I drove to Atlanta today to visit my parents.* Two hours in to the trip she threw up.* When we stopped at a Rest Area, she had runny and bloody stools!* Jazzy isn't a dog to get car sick, and the blood* at the end of her stool freaked me out.* We made it to Atlanta(A 7 hour trip) she ate okay and went out and had another episode of loose stools with blood.* Should I try to find an emergency vet tonight?* I am so worried.* I can't go back home earlier than Wednesday to her vet.
I did end up calling the Emergency vet Sandy recommended and they suggested I wait until this morning, feed Jazzy boiled chicken and see how the next poop looked.* Evidentally there is something called stress colitis which can be brought on by travel as well as other things.* I did as suggested and everything looked "normal" today.* ;D What a scare.* I still am going to have her checked over by her own vet when we get home.*
Thanks again Sandy for all your help!
Where are you? There is one on Lawrenceville/Suwanee Road right off the interstate.
I would definitely go to an emergency vet.
I'm near Sandy Springs, but I know I passed Lawrenceville signs on the way down here on I-85.
Bloody stools could also be an indication of hookworms. What type of HW meds do you use? Unfortunately, my vet just closed. Okay, there is one near there; hold on a sec.......
I use Heartguard Plus.
Okay call these guys:
Georgia Vet Specialists and ER Services
They are open 24 hours.
They are in Sandy Springs off of Abernathy
They are one of the BEST; from what I understand!!
They are also expensive!!
If you decide to wait until morning and want to go to a trusted vet; PM me and I'll send you my vet's info.
Thank you Sandy! Good thing I brought the plastic with me.
