hey guys,Iím just wondering how the proper way of switching dog food is. Is it true that I must not feed my pup for one whole day and then the next day, i'l serve her the new food???
thnx and God bless!
With pups it is better to introduce the new food slowly by mixing the new with the old. Any sudden change can upset their digestive systems. I think I switched food by adding 25%, then 50%, then 75% over a period of a week to give them time to adjust.I've never heard of this method. I guess its so the pup has a detox but its not really necessary, IMO. Plus its not very nice to not feed a hungry Labrador for a full day!Is it true that I must not feed my pup for one whole day and then the next day, i'l serve her the new food???
i see.. thx a lot..
The most common protocol for switching puppy foods that I'm aware of is to feed 3 parts of the old food to one part of the new food for 3-4 days.
Then go to 2:2 for the same time.
Then go to 1:3 for the same time.
Then all new.
I hope you're feeding your pup a Large Breed Puppy food. That's what canine nutritional scientests recommend.
