    DefaultPet Insurance?

I'm a writer and Lab "Mom" working on an article about pet insurance for a Labrador retriever magazine. I'd like to speak with any forum members who have purchased pet insurance for their Lab and are willing to share their experiences. Was it worth the money? Have you ever had to use it? Good/bad experiences, ideally I'd like to include both sides.

    Thank you.

There was a very good discussion a year or so ago on the Retriever Training Forum. You may want to google it and do a search.
I've never bothered but some of my pet homes swear by insurance.

Thank you. I'd be interested in hearing about their experiences?

I guess it depends on the company and amount of coverage offered.

That should be an interesting article, please share once you are through. Honestly haven't taken up pet insurance for my dog. I think it is a bit expensive and my Lab is still young and healthy. We have a vet who takes care of him when he's sick. Unless i am convinced otherwise, not sure i will take up insurance. But it would really be interesting to hear people's experiences as well as read that article.

We purchased pet insurance on the advice of our vet after we lost our 12 1/2 year old best friend to cancer. We treated him to the tune of about $3,000 and lost him too soon anyway. Both of our labs are now insured. I think insurance helps in several ways: you never know what your dog is going to get into. We have had both of ours to the emergency clinic several times for that kind of thing, and while we know that anything they do, regardless of the presenting problem, is going to run at least $500, we also know we don't need to think twice, because that money will come back to us in about 3 weeks with the company we use. So, whether some terrible illness hits them eventually or not, the peace of mind is worth it for us. This issue has been addressed a number of times on this forum, and at least one person some years back posted that they put money away for emergencies. If they need it, they have it, and if they don't need it, it's more savings for them. So there are at least two ways to look at the issue.
