UnhappyLab not eating? Or, eating off the floor?

Our 13.5 year old is on a hydrolyzed protein diet for food allergies. Ultrasound is unremarkable (e.g. shows nothing) He also has albumin in his blood and reduced kidney function (probably 60 -70%), so we know he is showing his age. His skin has REALLY improved. BUT he is not eating. He eats probably one meal a day, and not enthusiastically. His food spilled onto the floor and he ate it off the floor for two meals...but not again.
Any advice would be welcome. Could change his food back but then he'd lose his coat and scratch constantly. He gets staph infections from the scratching.
    THANKS!!!

Yesterday. Creatinine higher (2.7) as was BUN so kidney function is still problematic (and supposedly low protein food helps). He does eat with activity so hopefully as the weather gets better (we're in New England) and the snow melts he can go through the woods and explore instead of staying on the paths.

Maybe he doesn't like the taste of the new food very much and needs to get used to it. If his appetite doesn't improve though, I'd talk to the vet, see what he thinks.

    hydrologized protein like science diet?

i personally think that food is crap and a home cooked meal for the old dog might help him. more work, but…..
and there are diets specifically for his kidney issues.

I'm just not a fan of those foods the vet sells.once, when it was recommended to me, i asked the vet and the staff to point out the protein to me.
    yeah, no.
