    DefaultBarium study

Does anyone have any info on barium studies for labs? My 1yr old is going this morning to have it done and I want to know if there is another way that is more natural.

Barium is quite standard procedure for detecting masses or blockages. I know of nothing "natural" that will achieve the same contrast. I'd not worry about the barium, I'd worry about whatever the vet is "looking for". Hope it went well. Anne

Zoe made it through the barium and the vet found a blockage in her small intestine. She said that Zoe should poop it out by today. I'm hoping she does, so I can give this poor dog a treat. She cannot have anything but her am and pm feeding until she passes this thing that is in her intestine.

Glad they found the obstruction! Do you know what it is yet? How old is Zoe?
I'm pretty sure she isn't feeling that well to really want that treat, so don't worry. You'll have plenty of time to catch up w/ that.

I searched high and low and never found anything in her stool. Yesterday I found a small piece of wood a sliver in her stool, but I don't believe that was the reason for the blockage. Oh, by the way Zoe just turned 1 on New Years Day. So, not sure why besides the ear infection and soares on her body that made her so lethargic. I'm glad she's back to her self again.

Could your vet just have seen gas? I know on regular xray (w/o barium), it's hard to tell.
