My puppy Sheena started limping on her right foreleg
At 4 month. Took her to the vet who said rest and observe. After three weeks it had worsened. She seemed stiff after resting and had a permanent limp. Back to the vet who insisted on X-rays under sedation to be able to do proper scans.
The results: she could see nothing wrong on the scans, possibly one spot of concern. But she said it is definitely ED. Why is she so sure? The physical exams? She is sending the X-rays to a ortho vet. The best in the area, he was recommended to me by others.
Is there still a chance she could have something else? And what is the prognosis dogs have with ED? Sounds like it is life long and needs management at all times...
Anyone had any experience of a misdiagnosis?
She said very like Sheena is a non-surgical case
"Nothing wrong on the scans" shouldn't equal "definitely ED".... at least if the vet knows what they're looking at. I'd ask for a referral to an orthopedic specialist who will be able to take proper xrays and tell you what they see. If she has ED, they'll be able to tell you which kind and what the prognosis is with surgery vs not.
Where are you?
I am in Cape Town South Africa. She says sometimes you can't see anything on the scans, only later when the dog is older?
She is sending the scans to specialist and I will hear what he has to says before the end of the week.
I am devastated that Sheena is in pain
