    DefaultHairball cough????

Ok, another goofy question. Do dogs get hairballs?? Toby has been hacking like he has a hairball. Recognize the hack because of the cats. Just wondering if I need to call the vet or not. :-\

Sounds like kennel cough. They can get it even if they have been vaccinated for it.

What if it isn't happening often just once in a while? Ender hacks like this every once in a while and I thought it was just from being naughty and chewing every leaf/twig in sight outside!

sometimes it only happens right after they first get up. if it's once every few days or so, I wouldn't worry. but if it's on a regular basis, especially after getting up after rest; it's probably kc. ask your mom how he was there....has he been exposed to other dogs, etc.

I second Lindsay. Toby only hacks maybe 1 or 2 times a day. I think I will wait until DH gets home tomorrow to see what he thinks. He isn't doing it that often right now. I may call the vet tomorrow. He was in a couple of weeks ago and he had a runny nose and was sneezing, they said it was a cold. It did go away after a couple of days. I need a medical book for Puppies/Dogs.

Well... I will ask mom if I get a chance... and tomorrow we see the vet anyways for another shot of vaccinations... so I'll ask then.

Sure will!!! I've actually noticed the hiccups more than the coughs in the morning so I have hope for him. But I will check with the vet. Right now he's wiped out laying beside me in his sleep and "barking" in his sleep.

Toby was awake from when I got home from work at 2:30 and he just crashed about 8:20pm. He usually takes a nap somewhere in between there. He is out now though!!
