Hey guys! I have an 11 week old lab who has had stomach issues lately. He has had diarrhea on and off for the past 2 weeks, and occasional vomiting (2-3 times) The vomit is thick, with the whole pieces of food intact. I'm lead to believe its because he's not chewing his food at all, and just swallowing it whole. His stomach swells so much and I know he's uncomfortable. We've added water to the food, and fed him in small portions in one sitting for all his meals, as the vet suggested. Is there anyway to get him to chew his food? or keep him from bloating? We've tested for parasites and they came back negative, but he still struggles with diarrhea at least once a day. Any suggestions? Thanks!
How much are you feeding him. Try cutting back some, over feeding is a cause of diarrhea.
Dogs rarely chew kibble, so trying to get him to chew will not happen.
How much do you feed and how often do you feed and what do you feed.
We've been feeding him 1/4 of a cup in 2 different bowls to space them out, to get him to eat slower. So 1/2 for breakfast and dinner, and 3/4 of a cup for lunch in 2-3 different bowls. Feeding him at 8am, 11am, and 5pm. He eats it up like it's his last meal! I just want him to have hard poop!
That is not much food for an 11 wk old pup. Total of 1 3/4 per day would not cause diarrhea, unless you recently increased the amount by too much too fast. What brand and formula are you feeding?
Often a fecal can come back negative if the dog did not shed any eggs or parasites. It may be wise to take another sample in to check for coccidian and giardia again.
Are you sure he did not ingest something causing a blockage. Diarrhea and vomiting can be a sign.
