    DefaultHow long of a walk?

I was wondering how long of a walk a 14-week-old puppy should go on... I took Peyton on about a 30 minute walk this morning, and he seemed pretty tired at the end of it. I don't want to cause him any hip or joint problems, so I thought I would ask. He goes on 2-3 walks a day, plus runs around in our backyard with the kids and plays fetch with his toys inside. Thanks!

General rule is 5 minutes per month of life. So a 3 month old puppy would get 15 minutes of walking.

Running free in the back yard does not count because the dog can rest whenever he/she wants to. By exercise it is meant "forced" leash walking.

    agree with the above.

for walks, as they are on leash you want to stick to approx. 5 minutes per month of age for each walk. But you want as much off leash free play (loose in the yard, interacting with teh family and running around) as he wants.

Thanks for information! I thought the walk this morning seemed like it was too long for him, I was almost pulling him by the end. I'll shorten our walks to 15 minutes.

He's had quite the workout attacking the vacuum tube and playing in the rain and mud with the kids today, I don't know if he'll need another walk!
