Since you mention food allergies, how long has she been on the current food you're giving her? If this is a recent switch, a vet told me once that it may take a month or more for the allergies to subside. If it's not a recent switch, you may want to try a different food.

Been there done that. Jack's got allergies and his coat gets quite thin around the rib cage area. Happens every summer.

Kristan - have you checked her thoroughly for fleas? If you are treating with Front-line, I know it became ineffective with my dogs several years ago.

All this flea talk is making me consider checking Jack again. He's been scratching a bunch lately but I wasn't surprised knowing he has allergies. I checked him for fleas about a week ago and saw none. I'll check again - good idea, Tammy.

You are welcome! Having an itchy dog at this time of year would definitely send me looking for fleas first. Especially if the itching and fur loss came out of nowhere.

If no fleas and she's been on the food for 5 months, perhaps it's time to switch IF the itching and hair loss has presented in the past. If it's recent and sudden - I'm not sure it's food allergy related.

I was going through similar issues and it took me a year to find suitable food for Jack.

Perhaps a seasonal allergy? Some sort of grass or other pollen? Mold? It does not look too bad yet. How long has this being going on?
