He is a black lab, 8 years old. He does have heartworms. We think that this might be a tick that he's been picking on but it seems to be coming out of his skin. He has been picking at it all night and we just noticed it. What could it be? We are in a panic! Please help! Thanks in advance

It does not look like a tick to me but I would definitely have a vet look at it in the morning or ASAP.

Doesn't look like a tick to me either, but I would definitely call the vet first thing in the morning.

Is he being treated for the heartworm?

Looks like a growth of some sort to me. I would have the vet evaluate it.

Vet said it was just an infection. He's on antibiotics now. I'll keep you guys updated.
BigBrownDog: Yes he is being treated for them.

Glad it is not serious and he's getting better, what antibiotic he is taking?
