    DefaultCNM labs

Hi, I am new, and have two black labs with cnm. Is anyone else adopting these sweet animals? We adopted ours because our oldest son has cmt which is a form of muscular dystrophy. Does anyone know how long they live? And what problems we may be facing? They are brothers from the same litter. Breeder was going to put them down, but we adopted them. They are 7 months old. Their names are Obi, short for Obsidian and Kenobe. Now our son is doing better with his depression from his disease. But would like to know more so we are all well educated, and can prepare our two children. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it really depends on the severity of the disorder. Some dogs don't live beyond 4-5 mos but some have lived years. I just sent in my 2 yo's swabs on Tues to France. I hadn't had to do any for years but in this case, her sire wasn't tested so I have to know. So far, we've been clear but another friend had a surprise a few years ago w/a carrier, so I won't let my guard down on it.

    DefaultThanks

I have checked with the website and talked to the coordinator. One baby has it worse than the other. Trying to use natural products as far as supplements. What I have found to help the most is glucosamine, creatinine, vitamin k, alfalfa, and blue algae. We knew they had it when we got them. Just wanted to see if anyone has tried other products on them that worked. Still having hard time getting them to gain weight. We still can see their ribs, but don't want them to gain too fast and hurt their ability to walk.

Good luck with your babies. It's frustrating to me that breeders are not testing for it still.
