DefaultNew puppy has Urinary Track Infection.

Took our new 9 1/2 puppy for her vaccine vet visit yesterday and they did urine test and found she has Urinary Track Infection.

    Prescribing some anti-biotics.

Is this something I should be scared/worried about?

no need to be scared at all. it's pretty normal. The vet should have told you that.

How did they find the UTI? not something they normally test for at a vet visit. Did you mention frequent urination? Did they test the urine?

You may want to read up on inverted vulva, it's not a big deal or anythign to worry about but if it is a inverted vulva you will want to hold off on spaying her to see if a heat or two corrects it.

Yeah in the process of trying to potty train her we noticed sometimes she would just squat and go without any warning..no usual sniffing or turning, etc , even just a few seconds after having been taking out and gone already. Just seemed odd considering how well she had been going with training. Also we are crate training her and when letting her out about 3 hours after her morning business--feeding-business she would be panting alot and basically soon as her paws hit the grass she was urinating.........so we had already scheduled normal vet visit so took urine sample and ask them to a test.

Good for you for picking up on that! Lots of new puppy owners would not. Bravo!

I would like to second Tanya's advice to have your vet examine her for an inverted or "hooded" vulva. Spaying before she has a heat or 2 (which usually corrects this problem) can mean a lifetime of UTIs/treatment OR UTI prevention efforts (like cran caps and wiping her).

Thank you for the link with info.

Looks like our girl is a Innie

Will be sure to bring up and discuss with Vet when we see her next for followup.

if she has an innie DO NOT spay her before she has a season regardless of what you vet may say. unfortunately, this is an area they don't usually have much knowledge of.
