    DefaultRough paw pads

Noticed lately Chief's paw pads on all of them are rough, especially near the edges. I would imagine this is pretty normal, but wondered if I should consider doing anything to help make them smoother or not? I heard "Tuf-Foot" is good and helps keep the pads strong, but dont know much about it. Has anyone used that before? What about using a very fine emory board thing to help smooth the edges? Or should I just not worry about it? Am wondering if over time will they become worse and maybe cracked or painful to him. Thanks.

You can rub some good old Vaseline on rough paw pads. Cheap and easy. They also sell something called Butter Balm which is good but expensive. Vaseline works great and is not toxic.

Good to know, thank you. I pretty much figured from things I've read, that its fairly normal for dogs as they get older, for their pads to be rough to help protect them more. As long as he's not bothered by it, which he isn't, I probably wont worry about it though. Thanks again.

My hubby uses a product called "bag balm" that we get at a feed store. Maxx loves his "foot massages", Emma hates her mails cut or her feet touched in general but she tolerates it because she has no choice! As Gina suggested, I bet Vaseline would work just as well and be much cheaper.
