    DefaultConstant Scratching and Stinks

Sarita is 9 years old and is constantly scratching and stinks.

She is bathed regularly and several medicated shampoos have been tried.

    Any suggestions?

Frequent bathing can actually cause skin problems with dogs. Maybe you should try using some fish oil supplements to help with what is likely dry skin.

Have you seen a canine dermatologist?

It could be allergies as well. Also dogs with an odor could have a yeast infection. See your vet.

When I rescued Tessa last year she smelt horrendous. No amount of bathing helped. The vet said the first thing they are taught in vet school is if a dog stinks and has a greasy feel to the coat it is yeast.

I shampoo her in Melasab(sp) 2-3 times a week. Labs usually don't need bathing.
I would see the vet who will take some scrappings and diagnose what ever it is. I wouldn't wait too long as they can get ear infections, and can be quite miserable.
    Nizarol helps Tess.
    Good thoughts.

I agree with yeast. A yeast infection on a dogs skin smells awful and washing won't get rid of it. We got medicated wipes when Ralphie had a yeast infection.
