We brought home our Sassy on Sat (lab mix - but possibly purebred -- rescue) and both the bet and her Day Care stated that her belly was large. Vet gave her a dewormer and said she seemed very healthy. Rescue also have her a dewormer a month prior. She was found very skinny - and still has a skinny frame (we are trying to chunk her up a bit) but she has a huge belly still. She also sleeps all.the.time. 8 hours at night, then most of the day with periodic bursts of play - but still subdued. She also follows us everywhere we go - so not so tired she won't move. HUGE appetite - always eats all her food plus treats for training and potty. Peeing and have bowel movements regularly.
We lost our Leah mutt two months ago so I am paranoid and want to make sure I am not missing anything. Any ideas?
Was she actually tested for worms, or just given a dewormer? How are her stools?

my mind went straight to worms. when did the vet deworm her? it can take a few rounds of de worming to kill everything off. Did the vet say anythign about the belly?

Did the vet examine a stool sample? Worms are usually pretty easy to diagnose.

The pup should be tested for worms, not just randomly put on dewormer.
Yes, vet did a fecal. No immediate signs of worms but should get official results today.
Oh and to answer the other question - yes, the vet did comment on her belly. I think it looks more prominent than it might on other puppies because she is still pretty skinny (her litter was found as skin and bones - something happened to their Momma ). Her energy level seems MUCH higher today, which I am thankful for, but belly still big. I have a call into her vet just to confirm fecal test results and see if there was anything else we need to do at this point.
Hope that she's OK - Good looking girl !
I am not sure exactly if this is common but from my lab, when we picked him up, he was very very lazy so we went to the vet multiple times asking them if there was something was wrong with my dog. There was nothing wrong with him. He also had very bloated stomach and I was worried but there was nothing wrong with that either. It eventually went away as he grew up. He was lazy til about 6 month old sleeping around 20 hrs a day and not much active. Just a lazy lab. Hope this helped .
