I have a yellow lab who is a little over a year old. He has a big build but is not overweight. Lately, we have noticed that whenever he exerts himself too much at the park he has very stiff front legs lasting anywhere from 1 to a couple of days. Originally, I thought the stiffness was caused from muscle cramps due to overexercise but now I am worried it might be something more serious like elbow dysplasia. When he walks after running at the park, it looks as if he is wobbling on his front legs. It looks like his muscles are so sore that he can't bend his front legs. He doesn't cry or complain so I can't tell if it is causing him pain or if it is just muscle cramps. He also doesn't pull away his legs when I touch them and try to massage them. In particular, I notice the wobbling when he is walking down hill.
Has anyone experienced this with their young labs? Wanted to do some research before taking him to the vet. Really worried about my little guy! Thanks!
I'd get him xrayed. Sadly there seems to be more elbow dysplasia out there than hips anymore because we still have some breeders not testing for it.

Oh crap! Another genetic disease to be concerned about.
