    DefaultDeworming Mistake!

    Okay, I messed up.

My puppy, 15 weeks, had his 3rd round of shots today + rabies and a deworming (Virbantel). They also sent me home with a tube of Revolution. I wasn't even thinking and put the Revolution on him and then read the receipt and saw he already had a dose earlier today and he is due again on November, 12th. So I'm guessing that tube was for in a month.

I know, I know - totally my fault.

My question is, is he gonna be okay?

    Thanks.

I would call the vet and ask them. with medical questions the vet is always your best bet.

I'm gonna call in the morning but they're closed now. I'm just a paranoid mama.

This is a topical? I would bathe him right away. Maybe some has been absorbed, but you may be able to get a lot of it off of him.

Since Revolution is a topical treatment, I would bathe and scrub the dog really well, and call poison control for pets. 888-426-4435

Definitely call the vet. In the meantime, I would NEVER do all that on the same day. You're taxing your puppy's/dog's immune system. All shots should be at least 3 weeks apart. Wormings should be 3 weeks apart from shots. Surgeries should be at least 3 weeks from shots. Your dog could end up having an auto-immune crash by doing all of that together. Not to scare you, but you should be aware.

All of his rounds of shots have been a month apart. Same with his dewormings. (well besides this oops.) I'm in awe that the vet didn't give me verbal instructions.

Anyways, he's doing fine. No side effects at all.

    Thank y'all.

I think Labby meant you should not have done rabies with the 3rd round. I would never do that.

I also wouldn't give a Revolution until a week or two after the shots. Nor would I deworm him all on the same day.

It's like bringing your child in for a poison dose.

Just wondering, is there research behind spacing the vaccines (the parvo/distemper/etc. bunch) and rabies? I'm not trying to be snarky here, I'm only wondering because I'm a proponent of vaccines for children and adults, working in the scientific research field myself. I know my kids have sometimes received two combo vaccines at once, adding up to 20+ immunogens being introduced at one time. I know that for humans, this is no problem at all for the immune system, as we're constantly mounting immune responses to thousands of immunogens in our environment.

I know nothing about the canine immune system. Indy just had the 3rd set and rabies yesterday and I want to make sure she's going to be fully protected against ALL the diseases she was vaccinated for.
