    DefaultFood for a pup Kirkland

Hey guys! Through your help earlier, I have found a breeder and will wait around 1 more week until the pups are safe to go home. I will keep the pup on the breeder's food for a while for the pup to adjust to a new environment.

I've read that Kirkland's dog food is made by S&K, the same brand that makes TOTW and Diamond, etc. I was wondering if it is okay to slowly move my pup onto the premium puppy chicken, rice and vegetables for a year, then transition him to the adult version of the chicken, rice, and vegetables.

Thank you for your help. I apologize for the numerous questions. I just want what's best for my new puppy.

Why do you want to take your puppy off of the food the breeder is feeding? It is just not a good idea to change food with a new puppy unless there is an issue with the food. And I am also curious as to why you would want to change to a brand that just had a recall?

What food is the breeder recommending? A lot of times breeders will recommend a certain food since they know their dogs do well on that particular food.

HK was on Kirkland feeds for 4 years and did fine. We switched her off when I got concerned over some of the recalls. She has been on ProPlan for the past 6 months.

Yep, Ed and Bett are giving you good info! Diamond foods had a huge recall. The conditions in their factories was deplorable! I was feeding TOTW and even though we had no recalls on the west coast, I changed because of the lax conditions in their facilities.

Most puppies can be switched to adult formula at 6 mos or so. I began to feed 2 times a day at just before then, do not remember the exact age.
NO - 7 weeks is too early. A puppy should be with mom and siblings until at least 8 weeks and it is not legal in most states to let a puppy go prior to 8 weeks, check your local laws.

7 weeks is early, why isn't hte breeder keeping them until 8 weeks? (it's prime socialisation time).

eta: had you been looking at breeders before joining the board? that seems quick to find a breeder and expect a puppy in one week if you didn't already have a few picked out before your post asking if labs were the right breed for you. Labs are prone to many health issues, so hopefully the breeder ensured both parents passed all the health clearances prior to the breeding. that puppies are being socialized appropriately. and that parents were proven in some venue

Yes ma'am. I have been looking at breeders before this board. I have been lurking for years and just recently decided to post.

The breeder isn't letting the pups go until 8 weeks. But I have read some threads of folks bringing a pup home at 7 and was just curious is all!
