Question1 1/2 yr old lab suddenly freezes while walking, only last for a few seconds.

I have a 1.5yr old lab that has three of these "episodes" in the last week or two, we have an appt today at the vet. I'm looking to see if anyone else has experienced these issues:

-While in the middle of walking he stops as if he can't move, rear right leg quivers. Then withing seconds acts as if nothing happened.
    -Been acting depressed lately
    -Eating normally
-Had developed ear inflammation two weeks ago, vet gave him a shot of cortisone
    -Whining more than normal
-During one of the "episode" he did what i would describe as lip smacking
-urinated once in the house last night
-has been usually scared of noises

Otherwise a very happy, active and healthy dog. Symptoms all started at once.
Hips were xrayed at 6mo, all looked great.

    Any ideas?

glad to hear you are seeing the vet. hard to say if it is fear related or something in her body. have their been any changes lately in her life?

hips can change quite a bit after 6 months, usually if you are concerned about displasia or anything like that you x-ray only at 18-24 months when they are done growing. so even if they were great at 6mts doesn't mean they will always be great (which is why breeders should do final x-rays at 18-24 months of age). Not saying there are issues with your pup's hips, just that the x-rays were done too early to be accurate.

We got the X-rays done at 6 months because he always had an awkward gait, could it be his knees? When he has the "episodes" it's almost like his rear leg locks up.

No changes in his left, still spoiled rotten seems like when the ear issue started everything else started. He does swim alot...

LP? The only LP I can think of is Laryngeal Paralysis, and that doesn't cause the legs to lock up. Oh, wait- did you mean Luxtating Patella (sp?)? That's usually a small dog thing, but anything is possible. I'm still thinking it's neurological, tho.
