Ollie's eye was all fubar. he was squinting and the eye was rolling up n down. So around 9:30 we went to emergency all nite vet. Turns out he has a circular dot on his left eye- he has a naturally saggy face and droopy eyes . the vet put some green stuff in his eye which hilighted the the ulcer under black light. So we got some ointment and pulled the old E-collar out.
He said its basically a scratch or cornea or bacterial. in reading about it doesnt seem to bad- although he did say that he could have a chronic condition - but seeing how ollie is only 10 months old its unlikely as that is older dog stuff.
Anybody here have any EXP with this- pros/coms? what should i be on look out for ?
Jackson had a corneal ulcer once. A scratch from something. Healed very well. I've also had a horse that had one. Same experience. Other than making sure you use the medication religiously until its healed I wouldn't worry about it right now. It's pretty easy for a rambunctious puppy to get a stick or a blade of grass in his eye. You just look out for the same symptoms that made you go to the ER: runny or gooky eyes, squinting, eye shut...that kind of thing.
day 2 on treatment seems to be working-my pup is somewhat lethargic- in looking up eye ulcers it lists that as a symptom but i think it has more to do with wearing the E- collar aka the lampshade. still out-eating and drinking a horse. i will update on friday.
