    DefaultWhich Pro Plan for puppy?

I'm feeding Cassie the ProPlan Puppy Large Athletic with lamb and rice as the main ingredients and I was wondering if I should switch to the ProPlan Puppy Large Robust with chicken and rice as the main ingredients

Which one is best for her? She's almost 8mo.

    thanx.

Anyone had experience with Merda Dog food?

It seems good and it's Odour-stop Maybe that is the cause of the smell in the house.. The MeraDog Junior 2 has 24 protein and 12 fat. Is 12fat too much?

Since Labs are not a large breed, you don't need to feed a large breed food. Just the regular Pro Plan would be fine. You don't need puppy food at this age anymore either.

I never heard of the other food you mention.

Really? I didn't know that.. I thought she's still a puppy. So I'll go for an adult then ... cool!

My vet told me that we have to wait until she's 12 month to switch to an adult food.

Most breeders will tell you otherwise.

That's not true. Most vets also encourage spay/neuter by 6 months. Unfortunately, nutrition is not a vet's strong suit, it is rarely covered in detail when they are in (vet) school. Very reputable breeders who have been in the business of watching their dogs grow often recommend switching to adult around 5-6 months old. At 8 months you are definitely safe to switch Cassie to adult, Diesel was switched around 6 months.

As for the breed specific formulas - yes, some have certain ingredients that may be considered beneficial to a particular breed (I think Laura/Labby mentioned this once when I questioned it) but nothing so significant that you actually have to feed that formula. It is for the most part a marketing gimmick.

When Diesel was on ProPlan I just had him on the Sensitive Skin/Stomach formula - but had to switch as it wasn't doing anything positive for him with respect to poop, skin, ears, etc. Now he's on grain free (Acana) and doing wonderfully.

I tell my puppy people to switch to an adult food at 3-5 months of age.

And the reason? 3-5 month are still puppies, aren't they? Especially 3 and 4 mo.

They hit their first rapid growth then and puppy food fuels that growth. Adult food keeps the growth slow and even. I know breeders who don't even feed puppy food, starting adult food right at weaning.
