    DefaultCoat coloring on lab puppy

We have a new 12 week old lab puppy. We got her from a family who was moving and could not take her. Upon seeing a picture of her we thought she was a mix due to her coat coloring. When we asked the the owners they told us she was a full "English" lab. We were told her parents were on the premisis when they got her and one was a yellow lab and one was fox red. Our puppy is a dark yellow/red color with a white patch on her chest; however, she also has some very dark hair (black) around the front of her neck and along the back portion of the ridge of her back and her whole tail is primarily black.
Regardless of her coloring we love her and she is the sweetest puppy, I am only curious if this is normal or if it mean she come from a mixed parent. Other than the dark coloring in her coat her appearance is all lab right down to her webbed paws.

Labs can have a variety of mismarks and still be lab. Take a look at these pics and see if yours looks similar. Mismarks & other odd markings in Labradors part 2 - Woodhaven Labradors

None of those picyures look "exactly" like my pup..... but seeing them actually makes me feel better about what we were told by the family we got her from. I was trying to post a pic of her, but havent figured it out yet. Thank you for that site, everything I have googled always shows me "perfect" labs, I never thought to search for "mismarkings".

Here is a link, while it is technical, there is a lot of info you can read. Down toward the bottom is some color explainations you might want to read. We would love to see pictures! No matter whether she it a purebred or not, it sounds like you have a love bug there!

There is no specific pattern to a mosaic mismark - it is a genetic anomaly. Your puppy sounds interesting looking!

In all my years of loving Labs i have never seen mixed markings like that. I often wondered if that could happen and now i know..

Post pictures...what you're describing doesn't sound like a mismark. And PS, does the original breeder know that you have this dog and not the original owners? Most breeders require people to let them know if they can't have a their dogs anymore...and require a transfer of ownership...so you better get that straightened out.

Do you have registration? From the sound of it, she sounds mixed.

I would be interested in seeing a photo, but I can't imagine she's a purebred by what you said about the coloring. Did you get papers from the folks you got the dog from?

There are a couple pictures of her as attachments. I havent figured out how to post pics in the body of my message (computer will not let me copy and paste). Also cannot figure out how to make a profile picture. Can anyone tell me how to do it?
