DefaultHow do you guys feel about Blackwoods foods?

They have a grain free puppy to adult Salmon meal and potato recipe that I've been feeding. I don't hear many people around my area buying it because it isn't Old Roy and $15 for 50lbs. Its a 28protein 15 fat food. Salmon meal, potato flakes, field pea, canola oil, catfish meal, herring meal are listed as the first few ingredients.

I have never heard of it. Are you able to buy it in a pet suppply or feed store?

Yes, you can buy it at a variety of pet stores and many feed stores here have it. You can also get it online,I think Pet food direct has it. They do have a website though.

Blackwood is the house brand of Ohio Pet Foods. Excellent quality food, like all the foods made at that plant.

All you can do is try it and see how it works for YOUR dog. Good luck!

Yes, thats the ULTRA ULTRA food. Thats not what I feed or what the average pet owner would feed.

Just for background, Blackwood was a small independent company out of South Carolina that sold good formulas identified with numbers, like 1,000, 2,000, etc. The intro to the website shows it.

Blackwood fell behind and Ohio Pet bought the company and started offering more contemporary foods, like the GF, and freshened up the marketing.

The warning on the performance food is plain silly. I think it is just for marketing purposes, as they market it as a supplement. That used to be called Blackwood 7,000. I am sure the AAFCO statement is ALS. Most dogs don't need that kind of food but the worst that could happen is the runs.

Some of the formulas are copy-cat Annamaet formulas, in fact all the GF foods made at Ohio Pet Food are. Unfortunately dog food is a recipe and cannot be protected legally.

All the foods made at that plant are excellent, Annamaet, Verus, Blackwood, Fresh Pet Express, Life's Abundance, Best Breed, etc. There are some others that escape me.

You really are getting a product that no other plant can produce.

When many varieties of dog foods are made in the same plant(s) it really scares me. They seem to be the ones are most often involved in recalls. That is just MY opinion.
