    Defaultopinions on purina one food?

we just switched jayson over from ol roy to purina one because he was having awful stinky gas and stinky ears that no matter how much i cleaned them they were always dirty. so i just summed it up to ol roy not good for him. my question is how well of a brand is purina one?
thanks in advance for the opinions

I switched my dogs over to Purina one and it has helped! Tank was eating 13 cups of food a day!!!!! He was not overweight and looked very nice even with that much food. And after a lot of food choices given we chose Purina one since it was in our budget range and Healthy for the dogs. Tank is now down to 4 cups a day. Bentley is 4 cups and Mae 2-3 cups. Mae used to eat irregulary and now eats atleast once a day. SHe used to eat once ever other day most of the time. There coat also looks a lot better but the gas is still there! I think they will always have gas though .

Old Roy is a very low quality food. Purina One is a little better. Lamb and rice is ok. Purina One is not as good as Purina Pro Plan. This link has all the dogs foods and their reviews.

is the shaking of the head and stinky dirty ears signs he could be allergic to some sort of food?

I also would like to know the answer to Kristin's question -- our prior Lab Misty would have dirty ears all the time, even when I cleaned them frequently; she shook her head all the time! I had no idea that food could cause this. Can someone explain how food can result in ear problems? The link between the two is not obvious to me...

@Steve....allergic dogs get repeated ear infections. Sophie had 2 by the time she was 4 months old! The vet had us go grain free and no more ear infections. Our food must be doing the trick.

Thanks, Pam. So, is a food allergy the main cause of repeatedly smelly/infected ears (and the head shaking thing), or are there other causes? I just assumed it was a normal part of having a Lab, when we dealt with it with Misty; I have also had to clean Gracie's ears once already as they were looking a bit dirty. I guess I'd like to know how much "ear gunk" is normal, and when does it become "abnormal," such that one might suspect "food allergy?" This whole food allergy/ear infection thing is very new to me...
