My senior lab started having seizures about 3 months ago, diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. He's on phenobarb. He still had a petite seizure about every 30 days, but had his first grand mal since starting meds two night ago. He then had another one last night along with another petite mal. We have him on natural balance fish and sweet potato.
My vet seems out of his element with this and simple says increase his phenobarb every time his has any type of seizure. I know we cannot do this indefinitely.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. We are also desperately trying to find a vet in the Birmingham Alabama area who has experience with seizures or may specialize in neurology. We know that we can't cure him, but we are trying to find the best plan for him
I can offer no help but I just wanted to say I am very sorry.
I have a senior Maltese who has seizures. We only seen it happen once but we have signs that it happens at least once a month. So far no meds.
I've had a lot of questions myself in regards to seizures lately......
Again, I am sorry. They may have to up his phenobarb dose?
