What exactly are they? I was watching a youtube vid and one of the comments was " poor dogs they have loose hips". So now i am wondering what that is. bentley wiggles his when he walks but a lot of dogs i see wiggle there butts.

Probably simply that the ball isn't sitting tightly in the hip socket...which usually ends up with the dog developing arthritis. Hip wiggle when walking doesn't necessary mean a dog has hip dysplasia. I noticed clicking when my dog was a pup and occasional slight lameness......and yes she has quite a wiggle. Her hips aren't great......they were/are loose. We exercise her appropriately to keep her muscles strong, but at the same time make sure we don't over do it. Touch wood she's doing well at 6.

My guess would be, as Top of the Hill suggested, where the ball and socket do not meet well, typical of dysplsia. My kids could wiggle their butts off waggig their tail, and have either OFA Excellent or Good hip ratings

I wish you could tell hips were loose from watching a dog play, would save me $300 on doing clearances with X rays.
