DefaultNew & in need of help please: Annie screaming

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and sorry for going straight in with a post instead of introducing myself first but I'm desperately worried about our Lab Annie.

She woke us at 2am screaming the house down. We galloped out of bed and found her in the hallway, chasing her tail. As soon as we opened the living room door she ran in, body tucked and still doing this awful scream like she was in pain.

I called the emergency vet and we took her right away. She was shaking in the car and really nervous at the vet but after an hour of tests he could find nothing wrong with her and suggested she may have had a mild seizure. Her gave her a sedative and we went home. BUT, when we pulled up on the drive, she freaked again and was spinning around on the back seat screaming.

She's been laying on the sofa since we got back at 4am, but her breathing is really laboured. We called the vet again and he said it was probably just panic.

She had a TPLO in February after a torn cruciate and is a very stoical dog so this is really out of character for her. She endured a lot of pain with her leg, but we never heard a peep out of her.

We noticed her tail was a little flaccid this evening on her walk, but she's had cold water tail before, so didn't think much of it, but I'm wondering if there's any connection? She's otherwise happy and healthy and has been her usual self up until now.

Sorry for the long post, but we're so worried about her. We only adopted her last August and she means the world to us. She's only four and a half.

Thanks for reading. Any advice gratefully received.

I have no advise just to say good thoughts and hope she is better now. How scary for you.

I know some dogs suffer extreme pain with cold tail....that's what this sounds like to me. I would call the vet and find out what dosage of aspirin you can give her to relieve the pain.
Moka has had cold tail but it never seemed to bother her. But, there is a dog on another board I am a member of that just got cold tail and was behaving the same as your girl-the screaming and the pain. Aspirin helped her.
    Good Luck.

I agree with Javasmom. Sounds like she was just in a lot of pain from the cold tail. She may have been stoic when she was younger and is a little more of a drama queen now - they can change.

Hope she is better this morning.

    Thank you all so much.

She's been very quiet all day but at least she's eating again. Always a panic when a Lab says no to a biscuit! She had cold water tail before but wasn't too bothered by it. Good idea about the asprin, I'll ask the vet about dose just in case it should happen again - it was horrible not being able to help her.

    Thanks again, much appreciated :-)
