    Default"Cherry eye" help!!

Budrick has developed what I believe is deemed to be "cherry eye" according to my findings on the internet. It seems his 3rd eyelid is irritated and inflames. IT almost looks like a big red sty in the inner corner of his eye.
I read that although it does not cause any pain or discomfort, just really ugly to look at, there are 2 possible remedies. One is medication drops / ointment and the second is surgery.
Has anyone ever experienced this with their Lab or other dog. Apparently, it is more common in little dogs and not so common in Labs. to make it even worse, it seems that if it is present in one eye, it will most likely appear in the other....sooner or later. Going to get expensive if it needs surgical repair.

Any help / advice / experiences?

    Thanks!!

My springer spaniel had this, and we had surgery done - she was 11 years old, and the surgery went fine. She lived to 14 and never had a problem with this again. It wasn't cheap, it needed to be done by a veterinary ophthalmologist. But it appeared to be a routine type of surgery for this vet. There was no mention (that I recall; this was about 7 years ago) that there were options other than surgery, or that it could happen in the other eye.

No help her sorry I would call the vet and make an appointment. Sending good thoughts that surgery is not needed.

Have seen it many times .. we occasionally try the meds route - and always end up doing surgery - a specialist is not always required so the place to start is with your own vet (there are lots of other eye issues that can create very sore looking eyes!)

We went to the vet today and it was diagnosed as cherry eye. The vet said he wasn't comfortable doing the surgery himself so he recommended another vet who has done it several times. In the meantime, he gave us ointment to put on it to try to relieve some of the irritation. We have to do it 4x a day. Hopefully it works, but I have my doubts and think surgery will be needed. Keeping fingers crossed!!
